Safety Rules For Working on Your Car

If its the first time you have ever worked on your car you may be nervous knowing the fact that if you mess if the repair you can only make things worse. Some people even go as far as thinking that the car may explode if they connect the wrong wire! Don't worry this won't happen, but what will happen if you do make a mistake, is your car may not work and you might put it into an even worse state. Although your car will not explode if you work on it, there are some precautions you should take. Here are some safety tips that a beginner should take to keep you safe from the hazards of a car:


Never smoke while working on your car. This seems like a no brainer but if its a habit you make do it without even thinking twice.
Make sure your car is cooled down. You don't want to work on your car if its hot. It will be very uncomfortable to work on and you could easily be burned as engines get extremely hot.
Make sure your hand brake is pulled. The last thing you want is your car to start rolling away while your working on it! or even worse it could roll you over!
Never work on your car when the engine is on. This seems obvious but some might make this very dangerous mistake and decide to take a look at the engine while its still making the funny noise.
Don't wear jewelry. Necklaces and other pieces of jewelry will easily get damage when working on a car take off anything expensive as it will get dirty.
Keep a fire extinguisher around at all time. You never know when you might need it. It's a basic safety item that everyone should have.
Work in a well ventilated area. Don't work on your car inside a closed garage. You need fresh air. Breathing in gasoline and other chemicals over an extended period of time is not good for you.
