6/16 Deadline Approaching: New OSHA Residential Roofing Guidelines 1926.501(b)(13)

June 16 is approaching fast – Avoid fines and injuries with Safety Gear from the Man Store.

With fines of ,000 for the first offense and ,000 for a second offense – you don’t want to be unprepared!  The new OSHA roofing regulations require that workers engaged in residential construction six feet or more above lower levels must be protected by conventional 3m fall protection (i.e., guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems) or alternative measures for particular types of work.

Fall restraint systems may consist of a full body safety harness or body belt that is connected to an anchor point at the center of a roof by a lanyard of a length that will not allow a worker to physically reach the edge of the roof.

The Man Store is a CRCA member. We understand the importance of safety for roofers as well as the necessity for contractors to be compliant with the latest regulations. Fall protection consistently ranks among OSHA’s top 10 most cited violations. Below are some guidelines to help you choose the right gear for your job:

Anchorage:  Does the work require horizontal mobility, or is it fixed work?

For increased mobility, a horizontal lifeline system is ideal. It is essentially a cable that spans the length of a work surface, which allows a worker to attach a connective device to their harness and tie-off. Lifelines keep productivity up, as workers won’t frequently need to disconnect and reconnect to other anchorage points.

Body Support: What level of quality and comfort do you require in a full body harness?

Harnesses are available to meet a variety of requirements. If cost effectiveness is the most important consideration, select a simple harness with basic features. Higher-end harnesses can be an advantage as they have more features, provide maximum comfort, and reduce fatigue – keeping productivity high. If a harness is comfortable and easy to use, it’s more likely workers will wear it.

Connectors: How much mobility is required? What kind of anchorage are they connecting to?

Lanyards are an option if cost is a factor. They don’t provide as much mobility, which will result in the worker needing to disconnect and reconnect to other anchors more frequently, but they are more economical. Life lines are a good option for heights over 6 feet.

Since there are roofing products available to help keep costs low, prevent damage and ensure high mobility and productivity – there’s really no reason for roofers and construction companies to overlook fall protection.

Children Dental Care And Guidelines To Discover

Some parents are not sure when to take their kids to the dentist. There are a few rules to follow when thinking about children dental care. Knowing what age to begin dental practices and start booking dentist appointments, may help to keep a family healthy and cavity free.

Babies can begin to receive special treatment right from a small age. A parent can use a small piece of gauze to rub along the baby's gum line. That may help to keep any food or milk away from sitting on the gum line. If a new tooth pokes through and becomes infected it could become painful for the infant.

As toddlers they may begin drinking juice and having milk residue on their teeth. That is why is is important to not allow kids to fall asleep with bottles or cups with juice or milk. Over time the liquid can cause rotted teeth, especially in the front. If there are any signs of trouble, parents should take their children as young as infancy or the toddler age to get checked out.

When a child is an older toddler, they may start using the toddler toothpaste. Parents will need to assist with brushing and stay with their child while they are doing it. The teeth can be brushed up and down and the tongue. Kids may learn a routine that they can follow in the morning and before bed.

As a preschooler, parents may start to take them to the dentist office. A checkup could include a looking in the mouth and a simple cleaning. The dental professional may look for cavities or any other issues in the mouth. Cavities may appear like tiny black dots. They could be anywhere on the teeth and show signs of pain or no pain at all. Dentists will assess the area to determine if it needs to be filled or not.

After the first visit, families may return once a year for a follow up appointment. Professionals in an office may have advice about certain brands to use of toothpaste and what routine that child may use. The suggestions will be based on the child's age and stage of tooth care.

Children dental care may begin as early as infancy, however there is a different process for each age group. When parents learn what works with their children and how to manage healthy teeth and gum lines, they may find that they have a healthy family.

Children Dental Care And Guidelines To Find

Many parents wonder about children dental care and their kids. They may wonder when to start brushing their teeth and when to begin taking them to the dentist for checkups. There are some great ways to know when kids are ready for teeth brushing and for visiting a professional dental office. Learning about the stages and ages of dental practices, could help to keep a child's mouth clean and healthy.

As a young baby, some infants develop teeth that take a while to come out from the gum line. Milk and formula can become trapped in those tight spaces and cause issues with the new teeth. That is why parents may use a small wipe to brush away the gum surface. A piece of gauze may work well.

Larger toddlers may begin to eat different kinds of food and drinks. The juice cups and falling asleep with milk in the mouth, could lead to tooth decay. Parents may want to encourage that kids do not fall asleep with milk or juice in the mouth and that they brush their teeth with toddler paste.

Toddlers who are ready to brush their teeth, can use a toddler safe paste. It may offer a flavor that is desired with a bright color. Kids will develop useful skills in oral health care when they brush their tongues, teeth and gum areas. Parents can let kids try to brush their own mouth first and then they can also help.

Preschoolers may enjoy going to the dentist for the first time. They are old enough to know what is going to happen and may sit nicely on the chair. The dentist will not expect the child to sit long and may look in the mouth quickly. An easy and quick cleaning will have the child in and out of the office quickly. A dentist will determine if the teeth are growing normally and if they are healthy and clean.

Once a year check ups, can keep a family safe from oral health issues. The earlier a child sees the dentist the easier it will become. Once a year is often enough to check for cavities and any other issues.

Finding out when children dental care should be started, could help a parent help to take care of their child's teeth. There are certain time lines for starting to use toddler paste and for visiting the dentist. Following a good routine may teach children what to do as they get older.
